about

This song came from an idea Frankie had kicking around that didn’t really work for me in its original form. What I came up with instead was a glorified three chord song with a fairly standard verse progression. The song finally found its footing when I found a great melody and a pre-chorus. The chorus is sticky as hell, and it got stuck in my head many a night while trying to sleep after working on it.

Another breakup song. This one finds the guy realizing it’s over and he’s ending it— hopefully without too much drama. I recorded Don’t Wanna Be Your Man with a combination of electric and acoustic guitars. I busted out my Ampeg amp to get sort of an early 70s Stones sound on one side of the mix, and on most of the lead work. I think it fits the song’s almost country Sticky/Exile vibe.

lyrics

Yeah I’ve heard all of this before.
But I’m still walkin' out that door.
Baby try not to be so sad
You know we gave it all we had

Ain’t no use in just hanging on
Whatever we had, now it’s gone
Hard to face, but you know it’s true
In your heart you know we’re through

I don't wanna be your man
No, baby I don't wanna be your man
You know I did the best I can
But baby I don't wanna be your man

Really ain’t much left to say
Come on baby, let’s call it a day
If you want I’ll take the blame
But in the end it’s all the same.

So many things I tried
Too many tears been cried

I don't wanna be your man
No, baby, I don't wanna be your man
You know I did the best I can
But baby I don't wanna be your man

So many things we tried
Too many tears been cried
Whatever it was, it died

I don't wanna be your man
No, baby I don't wanna be your man
You know I did the best I can
But baby I don't wanna be your man

I don't wanna be your man
No, baby I don't wanna be your man
You know I did the best I can
But baby I don't wanna be your man
